You read that right. Money meant for hard-working American students is landing in the pockets of crooks, all because the federal government refuses to secure its own programs.
Here’s what’s happening: criminals steal names, Social Security numbers, entire identities, and then use them to create fake students — so-called “ghost students.” These fake enrollees get federal aid money, and the criminals walk away richer. What happens to the real students? They get less help, less funding, and more student loan debt.
