Liberal Americans once smugly threatened to run away to Europe if President Trump won. Well, they packed their bags, caught their flights, and landed on the other side of the ocean with high hopes. Now, the so-called “enlightened expats” are having a meltdown. Turns out, the European utopia they dreamed about doesn’t want to be their safe space. Instead, these self-righteous runaways are learning that reality bites a lot harder than Trump’s Twitter feed ever could.
Let’s be honest: the left always paints America as some kind of villain. The second they don’t get their way, they bolt, promising freedom and happiness in places like Paris or Berlin. But all they found was sky-high rent, endless red tape, and absolutely no patience for their American arrogance. Now, after crying about American “intolerance,” these liberals can’t handle European bureaucracy, social rules, and a much harsher cost of living. Suddenly, the land of the free doesn’t look so bad.
There’s something deliciously ironic about people who bashed American patriotism running home with their tails between their legs. These expats found out fast: There’s no participation trophy for being a foreigner in Europe. Instead of being welcomed as “resisters,” they were just outsiders—dealing with confusing languages, cold shoulders, and government agencies that make the DMV look like a cakewalk.
Liberal elites love to act like globalism is an upgrade from American values. They worship at the altar of the EU. But globalist promises of tolerance and comfort fell flat the moment real life hit. Try getting a job in a foreign country. Try getting basic medical care without paperwork nightmares. Turns out, open borders are great on paper—until liberals face the reality of being the outsider for once.
Maybe it’s time these runaway elites admit what most conservatives know: America—warts and all—is still the best deal on earth. The real “wake up call” here is clear: If the grass looks greener on the other side, maybe it’s just the fertilizer. Funny how it only takes a little dose of European reality to make even the most diehard Trump-hater homesick. The next time liberals threaten to leave the country, maybe we should just let them find out what globalist dreams really feel like.
