Rhode Island’s latest political circus proves yet again that Democrats are more interested in pushing their warped narrative than honoring innocent lives. A mural painted to memorialize Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee whose tragic murder at the hands of a repeat criminal shocked the nation, was well on its way to completion until leftist politicians, with David Morales at the front of the line, decided it was just too “divisive” for their liking. Since when did standing up for victims become a political statement?
Only in today’s twisted liberal America could anyone look at a tribute to suffering and resilience and see a threat. Morales and his fellow Democrats are so busy trying to keep their globalist friends happy, they can’t bring themselves to acknowledge the victims in their own backyard. Zarutska was exactly the sort of woman our country should respect: a refugee who sought safety here, only to become the victim of a justice system that coddles criminals and punishes the innocent.
Liberals like Morales would rather erase difficult truths than fix them. The mural was a stark reminder of what happens when progressive “reform” puts criminals back on the street again and again, no matter the consequences for real people. Instead of dealing with the ugly reality—and yes, it’s ugly—Democrats want to scrub the evidence away. That’s the only thing they know how to clean up: the truth.
Where is the outrage for Iryna? Where are the calls to fix the broken laws that failed her? All we get from the Democratic establishment is spineless virtue-signaling. Instead of facing their failures, they slap the label “divisive” on anything that makes them look bad. These are the same people who demand endless tolerance for lawbreakers but can’t tolerate a single mural that might make people ask tough questions.
If honoring the innocent is “divisive,” what exactly do Democrats stand for these days? It isn’t justice, and it certainly isn’t compassion. Maybe the real problem for Morales and his friends isn’t a painting on a wall—it’s the spotlight pointed straight at a system that has lost its soul.
