New York City liberals love to lecture the rest of the country about “equity” and “access.” But when it comes to their own backyards, their hypocrisy couldn’t be clearer. For all the talk of fighting discrimination, the very best public schools in this city are trapped behind invisible fences—fences built on century-old zoning maps. That’s right, in 2024, the so-called champions of progress still use ancient boundaries to decide which kids get top-notch education. And who gets locked out? The working-class families they pretend to care about.
The game is rigged. If you’re a parent in Manhattan or Brooklyn, forget about sending your child to a quality school unless you can afford a million-dollar apartment in the right neighborhood. These school zones aren’t about “helping the children”—they’re about keeping property values sky-high for the rich and powerful. The globalist elite have no trouble buying their way into the best schools, then pat themselves on the back for supporting “public” education. Regular Americans? They’re left with scraps.
It gets even worse. The lines on these maps were drawn generations ago, when discrimination was open and proud. Now, liberals slap a fresh coat of paint on the same old system and call it “fair.” But nothing has changed. The politicians running this city love to blame “systemic racism”—yet they preserve a system that only helps the privileged. Why fix it, when their own kids are set for life?
Let’s be honest—if Republicans ran things this way, the media would howl for blood. But these Manhattan progressives get a free pass. They virtue-signal about “diversity,” then turn around and defend NIMBY zoning laws that lock in segregation. The message to poor families is simple: know your place.
This is what liberal leadership looks like—a city where opportunity is up for sale, old maps decide young futures, and the elite keep power by pretending to be your friend. Until someone is brave enough to tear down these ancient barriers, New York will never be the city of hope it claims to be. If this is what “progress” delivers, maybe it’s time to turn the map—and the politicians—upside down.
