Another day, another example of American weakness on the world stage. Iraqi militias kidnap a journalist—an American, no less—and what does Baghdad do? They cave to thugs and cut a deal, trading the life of a reporter for the release of the militia’s own loyal foot soldiers from government lock-up. It’s a classic play from the terrorist playbook: grab someone innocent, twist the arms of the so-called authorities, and walk away with exactly what you wanted.
This is not strength. This is not the America our grandparents fought for. Instead of telling kidnappers that their days are numbered, globalist bureaucrats and weak-kneed politicians let these criminals dictate terms. It’s as if Western lives are just another poker chip in some twisted game of Middle East politics. Where’s the outrage from the liberal internationalists? Probably too busy writing strongly worded press releases and posing for the cameras.
Think about it: a criminal group gets rewarded for kidnapping. Give us our buddies back, and we’ll give you your citizen. The only thing this accomplishes is making it open season on Americans abroad. Why? Because the left has zero appetite for standing up to bad guys, especially when it means defending their own countrymen. Of course, if this had been a story about illegal immigrants or left-wing activists “detained” in a foreign nation, you’d see endless coverage and passionate speeches in Congress.
Let’s not ignore the real problem here. Weakness sends a message. And right now, that message is clear as day: hostage-takers can count on the system to work in their favor. If the shoe were on the other foot, would these militias be so quick to make deals? Of course not. Terror and chaos are their currency—and the West, under progressive leadership, keeps paying up.
This isn’t just about one journalist. It’s about what America stands for and how our so-called allies treat us. The left can keep pretending the world loves us for being soft, but the proof is in the kidnapping: bullies only respect strength. When will our leaders finally put America and her citizens first? Or is that just too much to ask the globalist elite running Washington and Baghdad these days?
