There’s a war on cops in this country, and another brave deputy just paid the ultimate price. In Tulare County, California, Detective Randy Hoppert—a husband, a soon-to-be father—was gunned down in the line of duty. He won’t get to meet his child. His wife is left to raise their family alone while the political class wrings its hands and does nothing.
Of course, you won’t hear leftists mourn this kind of tragedy. The radical anti-police movement has poisoned the air, making criminals out to be some sort of oppressed heroes. In reality, these are just violent thugs. The suspect who killed this detective didn’t surrender or show a shred of humanity. He ended up losing his own life after an armored police vehicle—brought in out of sheer necessity—had to use force to stop him after a standoff.
Ask yourself: Why is California, ground zero for soft-on-crime policies, seeing blood on its streets? The progressives who run this state have let criminals walk, demonized the men and women who protect us, and made sure police have fewer tools to do their jobs. This isn’t just bad policy—it’s killing people.
The detective’s death is a sad reminder of who gets hurt when liberals try to “reimagine policing.” It’s not the rich, the professional activists, or the politicians hiding behind their security details. It’s regular folks. It’s the families of police officers who pay the cost, who now have to bury a loved one because criminals think they can act with impunity.
Maybe it’s time for voters to wake up. Maybe, instead of coddling criminals and listening to the “defund the police” crowd, we should start supporting our law enforcement like the true heroes they are. How many more children have to grow up without a father before we admit that the left is dead wrong on crime?
