NATO Betrays America Again When We Need Them Most Over Iran Crisis

America is always first in line to defend our so-called allies. But when the tables turn and we need real backup—like now, as tensions skyrocket with Iran—where is NATO? Nowhere. European partners slam the door on using their air bases. The same countries that cry for our protection, stomp their feet when we ask for even basic cooperation. They love to enjoy the defense umbrella we pay for, but won’t lift a finger when we need them. It’s embarrassing, and frankly, it’s a betrayal.

Liberals and the globalist elite keep preaching that “NATO is essential.” But who is it essential for, exactly? American taxpayers are stuck footing the bill. We spend billions so European nations can skimp on their militaries and pour money into their failing welfare states. Meanwhile, when the U.S. actually tries to combat threats like Iran, our “allies” retreat. This is what happens when you put your faith in global bureaucrats who don’t value our interests.

There’s a word for this: freeloading. Why should American soldiers and families pay the highest price for Europe’s comfort? Why do we bankroll countries that refuse the simplest show of solidarity? Liberals in Washington call it “international cooperation”; I call it selling out our sovereignty. How much more disrespect should we take before demanding real change?

The truth is, we don’t need NATO nearly as much as NATO needs us. And yet, every time America asks for help—real, meaningful help—the answer is a hard “no.” If these nations don’t stand with us now, when will they? Are we supposed to be the world’s security guards while they laugh behind our backs?

Maybe it’s time to reappraise who our friends really are. Maybe it’s time to stop funding countries that just use us. Why should America play world police while our supposed friends sit on the bench? One has to wonder: If NATO won’t help us with Iran, why on earth should we help NATO at all?
