It’s Tax Day in New York City, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani wants everyone to know he’s coming for your wallet—well, at least if you work hard, invest, and actually own something of value. This is the latest left-wing scheme: instead of fixing the messes created by years of progressive policies, the mayor thinks the answer is to bleed more money from the so-called “rich.” He’s targeting anyone who dares to own valuable property, especially if they don’t bow down and live in the city full-time.
Liberals like Mamdani truly believe that scaring away investors and homeowners is some grand act of social justice. They never stop to ask why people keep fleeing cities like New York for places where government doesn’t treat them like an ATM machine. Instead, he’s out there bragging about a new annual tax on anyone who dares to own property and not stay in New York 365 days a year. It’s hard to believe they still don’t get it: punish success enough, and you’re left with nothing but empty skyscrapers, unemployment lines, and collapsing city services.
This isn’t just about greed—this is classic progressive hypocrisy. The globalist elites that push these “tax the rich” plans are always the first to find loopholes, stash their cash offshore, or get an exception for their latest pet project. Meanwhile, small business owners, investors, and job creators get squeezed. They call it “fairness,” but what they’re really pushing is pure envy—the rotten idea that government deserves a bigger cut of your American Dream.
And let’s not forget—these are the same folks crying about “affordable housing” and “economic development.” Does Mamdani actually think hammering property owners will magically create more affordable apartments? Or is it more likely he’s just looking to score points with his far-left base, all while driving every successful family out to Florida, Texas, or anywhere that still believes in freedom?
Here’s the truth: New York doesn’t have a revenue problem. It has a leadership problem. When the people in charge care more about virtue-signaling to their activist friends than attracting businesses, jobs, and prosperity, this is what you get—more taxes, less opportunity, and another step down the road to decline. If you want to chase the “rich” out of the city, fine—but don’t act surprised when the lights go out and the tax base collapses. Maybe that’s what the left wants all along.
