NYC to Spend 30 Million and Three Years Opening Just One Grocery Store

The far-left mayor of New York City is at it again. Anyone wondering what a true socialist disaster looks like should take a long, hard look at Zohran Mamdani’s latest pet project: a government-run grocery store that will somehow take three whole years and thirty million taxpayer dollars to build. That’s not just bad governing—it’s criminal stupidity.

This is what happens when radicals play with other people’s money. Instead of fixing the crime-ridden streets or bringing back jobs lost thanks to endless mandates, Mamdani is pouring tens of millions into a grocery store. On what planet does it take thirty million bucks and years of bureaucracy to open a place to buy eggs and bread? Only in a leftist’s fantasy world, it seems.

They claim they’re “helping” working families, but this boondoggle is the opposite of help. Let’s call it what it is: a clumsy attempt to push government control over every aspect of daily life. Free markets already offer more choices and lower prices. This stunt is about power—centralized, unaccountable power—nothing else. Taxpayers lose. Local sellers lose. The only winners are Mamdani and his elitist pals, who get to pretend they’re “fixing” things by throwing money at fake problems.

Once again, we see liberal hypocrisy on full display. They talk about helping the little guy but bulldoze real solutions in favor of big, slow, expensive government programs. How many real grocery stores could have been supported or freed from regulation for less than thirty million? How many families could have actually put food on the table if the city cut taxes or got out of the way?

Three years and thirty million for a single grocery store is more than just an embarrassment—it’s proof that New York’s leadership is broken beyond repair. If they can’t open a store without blowing millions and taking eons, what hope is there for anything else? Liberals keep promising utopia and delivering disaster. Is this really the “progress” New Yorkers signed up for?
