The shocking truth about free day care and who is really paying the price in New York

Liberal politicians love to toss around the word “free.” Free college, free health care, now free day care. But nothing is free—not when hard-working taxpayers are picking up the tab. In New York, the big-government experiment continues as the state promises “free” child care for everyone. Sounds like a dream. Until you open your eyes and see who really pays for it.

Child care is expensive—it can cost more than $13,000 for just one child per year. Parents struggle, so activists demand the government step in. But when the government gets involved, costs explode. Bureaucrats set pointless rules, piling on red tape, and driving up prices for everyone. Suddenly the $13,000 bill doesn’t just shift from parents to taxpayers—it balloons even higher, as government inefficiency always finds a way to waste more of your money.

Liberals never admit their “help” makes things worse. They champion “free” stuff, oblivious to reality. Big-government giveaways attract globalist interests and greedy special groups, looking to profit off mandates and higher costs. Meanwhile, local families are left scrambling, paying for others’ “free” benefits through higher taxes and less freedom in their own lives. That isn’t American. That’s socialist sleight-of-hand—a hand that’s always in your wallet.

And get this: strict government rules—meant to “protect” children—just make day care providers jump through hoops. Many small centers get crushed, driven out by overbearing regulations. This never-ending red tape limits options and kills competition. Less competition means prices climb even higher, and quality drops. Government promises choice, but then slams the door on every opportunity that’s not controlled by some faceless bureaucrat.

Trust the government to make child care better? Only if you believe in fairy tales. Liberals somehow think more taxes, more rules, and less freedom will solve every problem. The only thing government hands out for free is frustration. Why can’t leftists learn that real solutions come from empowering parents, not bankrupting them?
