These days, trying to get Democrats and Republicans to agree on anything is like asking cats and dogs to host a tea party. The left screeches about unity, but it’s usually just code for “do things our way or else.” Suddenly, when Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass and LA County Supervisor Kathryn Barger dared meet with President Trump at the White House, the woke mob lost its mind. How dare two California politicians speak to the so-called “enemy”? The left, always so obsessed with their resistance, can’t stand when someone steps outside their blue bubble.
This is the same crowd that worships “diversity,” unless we’re talking about diversity of thought. When it’s time to actually work together for the good of the city—or, heaven forbid, the nation—all they do is double down on outrage. Karen Bass, not exactly a favorite of conservatives, faced a tsunami of criticism just for sitting down with President Trump. Apparently, the coastal elites would rather see California burn than admit the president they love to hate might have ideas worth hearing.
The truth is, Los Angeles is drowning in problems. Crime is up. Homelessness is out of control. The streets are filthy. Blue-state policies have absolutely ruined what was once a shining city. But rather than look for solutions, liberals prefer to point fingers and play the blame game. When their policies fail—and let’s be honest, they almost always do—progressives just rewrite history and say conservatives are to blame for their own mess.
Of course, the real sin in the eyes of the liberal establishment is showing even a hint of respect to President Trump. To them, any cooperation is betrayal. But regular Americans are sick of this childish nonsense. They’re tired of politicians who care more about political theater than fixing real problems. Maybe it’s time some Democrats realize that working with the president isn’t surrendering your values—it’s finally putting the good of the country above your own ego.
Imagine the left’s heads exploding if these meetings led to real progress for Los Angeles. Maybe that’s exactly what the radical wing of the Democrat party fears most: that a little bit of Trump common sense just might shatter the illusion that big government liberalism is the answer. Isn’t it time to stop pretending the emperor has clothes, and admit that sometimes, the grown-ups in the room are wearing red hats?
