The so-called “elites” in Washington love to pat themselves on the back at glamorous events like the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. It’s their annual parade of smug self-importance, where the ruling class, Hollywood wannabes, and political insiders all pretend they’re above the rest of us. But last night, reality crashed their little party—literally—in terrifying fashion. Shots rang out right in the heart of the capital, sending the entire “resistance” crowd scrambling for cover. Talk about exposure: this wasn’t some scripted drama these media insiders could control. This was chaos, and it showed just how unprepared these so-called professionals are for the real world.
Let’s look at the facts, which the mainstream press will try to bury: A suspected gunman—now identified as Cole Tomas Allen, straight from California, no less—managed to get a weapon into the hotel where the dinner was held. If you can believe it, there were no metal detectors at the entrance to the building. Security at these events is supposed to be airtight, especially with President Trump, the First Lady, and high-ranking administration officials present. Yet a criminal walks right through the front door and wounds a Secret Service agent. The only thing standing between evil and tragedy? A bulletproof vest—thank God for the Second Amendment and those who wear a badge.
Of course, what you won’t hear from the anti-gun crowd is that more gun control wouldn’t have stopped this. The rules in D.C. are already some of the strictest in the nation, yet criminals never seem to care about gun-free zones or liberal regulations. Isn’t it amazing how quickly the powerful get a reality check when their anti-common sense policies fail in their own backyard? Instead of looking for more ways to restrict the rights of good Americans, why not start by enforcing basic security at your precious high-society dinner?
Naturally, the liberal press will twist this event into another excuse to bash conservatives, blame the Trump administration, or pretend this is just a one-off. But let’s call it what it is: the left’s arrogance and negligence put people in harm’s way. When it comes to the safety of their own, they still can’t get their act together, even with an army of security and all the money in the world. Yet these are the same people who claim they know how to keep the rest of us safe? Give me a break.
Maybe tonight’s chaos will finally wake some people up. Or maybe the ruling class will brush it off, chalk it up to bad luck, and go right back to mocking the people who believe in personal responsibility, strong borders, and self-defense. One thing’s certain: if this is the “leadership” America can expect from the media and Democrat-run D.C., the country is in bigger trouble than we thought.
