EPA showdown exposes Democrats ignorance on Supreme Court as Zeldin schools Congress

The latest House Appropriations Committee hearing was a trainwreck for Democrats, and America should be paying attention. When EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin showed up to discuss next year’s budget, he was met with the usual left-wing hysteria about “saving the earth” and “fighting climate change.” But instead of rolling over, Zeldin did the unthinkable: he actually followed the law, not leftist panic.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro from Connecticut came out swinging, attacking Zeldin’s budget proposal like it was some kind of criminal act. She accused him of writing a “climate change denier’s manifesto”—because to Democrats these days, not bowing to their apocalyptic climate cult is basically a crime. But here’s the thing: Zeldin didn’t back down, and he didn’t let liberal talking points guide his answers. He shot back, asking exactly where in U.S. law the EPA is required to sacrifice the country’s prosperity on the altar of global warming alarmism.

And that’s where the wheels completely came off for the Democrats. When Zeldin pointed to the Supreme Court’s major decisions—like the recent Loper Bright case, which put an end to the idea that agencies can just make up their own interpretations of the law—DeLauro was caught flat-footed. She didn’t even know what the ruling was. She’s a member of Congress, supposed to write the rules for these agencies, and she can’t be bothered to learn the facts? No wonder Americans are sick of Washington elites.

Liberals like DeLauro are obsessed with chasing after “climate justice,” no matter how many jobs or businesses it destroys. She howled about “fighting polluters” and “protecting people,” but had zero grasp of the Supreme Court’s limits on agency overreach. In her world, bureaucrats should just do whatever feels “progressive,” no matter what the law actually says. That’s not just ignorance—it’s dangerous arrogance.

Meanwhile, Zeldin did the job he was supposed to do. He reminded Congress and the American people: the EPA has to follow specific laws, not whatever agenda the latest climate conference dictates. It’s not about denying science, as the left smugly claims. It’s about upholding the Constitution and respecting the separation of powers. But Democrats can’t handle that, because it means stripping away their favorite tool—unelected bureaucrats running wild for “the cause.”

Maybe next time Rep. DeLauro and her friends want to yell about the “climate crisis,” they should actually read the laws they pass—and the Supreme Court decisions that define agency power. Until then, why should anyone trust liberals to run anything in America, let alone the EPA?
