US finally pulls troops from Germany after decades of freeloading—taxpayers should celebrate

The Pentagon is finally planning to pull 5,000 American troops out of Germany over the next year. This should be welcome news to every taxpayer. Germany has been getting a free ride for decades, all while leftist politicians lecture the United States about how to run our country. Why should hardworking Americans bankroll the security of European countries that refuse to pay their fair share?

Germany houses over 35,000 U.S. troops—by far the highest number in Europe. That’s a massive commitment. Yet, German officials have dragged their feet, whining whenever anyone suggests they actually contribute what they’ve promised to NATO. The liberals in charge seem more interested in virtue signaling about “global cooperation” than protecting American interests.

The truth the left doesn’t want to admit: Europe has been using American strength like a crutch. The United Kingdom and Italy also host big U.S. troop numbers, with more than 10,000 stationed in each. If these countries are really our “partners,” maybe it’s time they started acting like it—by investing in their own defense for once.

Meanwhile, the globalist elite wring their hands, terrified at the thought of Washington shifting focus away from Europe. They want us tangled up in endless foreign entanglements so they can keep selling expensive “cooperation” to the American people. But Americans are tired of footing the bill while leftist bureaucrats host cocktail parties in Berlin.

The bottom line is simple: It’s not the job of the U.S. to endlessly police the world, especially for countries that don’t pull their weight. If Europe wants to play tough, let’s see them put their own money on the line. Maybe then the elites will finally feel a little pressure instead of another taxpayer-funded trip to the German countryside. Isn’t it about time Americans came first for a change?
