Chicago tries to punish Walgreens for fleeing crime while letting real lawbreakers run wild

Chicago politicians are at it again. Instead of stopping the criminals who ransack their neighborhoods, they’re now trying to turn law-abiding businesses into the bad guys. One alderman is demanding that Walgreens—a company that’s been forced to close stores because of rampant theft—should be charged for abandoning the city. You can’t make this up.

Think about that for a minute. For years, Chicago has been a safe haven for shoplifters and thieves. Left-wing leaders refuse to lock up thugs who steal in broad daylight. Shelves are empty, entire aisles locked away like gold at Fort Knox, and working families suffer the consequences. But instead of putting criminals behind bars where they belong, these Democrats want to point the finger at the stores fleeing their chaos.

It’s beyond hypocritical. The same politicians who let crooks walk free now act shocked and outraged when businesses finally say “enough is enough.” Seniors, mothers, and children pay the price—forced to travel miles for basic medicine because their local Walgreens shut down due to unchecked lawlessness. But in the eyes of these politicians, that’s not the fault of criminals or soft-on-crime Democrats. No, they want us to believe it’s all Walgreens’ fault for leaving.

Here’s the real crime: turning a blind eye to actual lawbreaking while inventing fake “offenses” for anyone who dares to escape their failed policies. “Corporate abandonment”? Give me a break. The real abandonment comes from leaders who protect criminals instead of citizens. When did we start criminalizing businesses for refusing to be permanent victims?

This isn’t just incompetence—it’s a complete reversal of justice. In today’s Chicago, the law only targets those outside the Democrat machine. Thieves and looters get a free pass, but a shuttered drugstore is now the villain. Maybe if the city’s leaders spent half as much time fighting crime as they do blaming victims, Chicago’s families wouldn’t be living like prisoners in their own neighborhoods. Who are the real criminals here—the ones stealing, or the ones allowing it to happen?
