Shocking betrayal How Josh Shapiro sabotaged his own party to crush a Democrat whistleblower

It should surprise no one that backroom deals and petty personal grudges drive Democrat politics in Pennsylvania. Just look at the latest episode starring Josh Shapiro, the slick liberal governor now angling to be Kamala Harris’s vice president. There are whispers that Shapiro may have quietly turned his back on his own party just to settle a score. Apparently, when Democrat Erin McClelland dared to call out Shapiro’s questionable ethics and leadership, the Democrats threw her under the bus. How did they do it? By turning a blind eye while Republican Stacy Garrity coasted to reelection as state treasurer—even though Garrity is now running to take the governor’s mansion right out from under Shapiro’s nose.

Payback is the lifeblood of leftist politics. McClelland had the audacity to demand accountability from Shapiro, calling out his refusal to deal with a top aide accused of sexual harassment. Lessons from the Democrat playbook are clear: never cross the party boss, or you’ll get hung out to dry. Sure enough, when McClelland needed Shapiro’s support, he simply refused to endorse her. The message couldn’t have been clearer. Anyone who steps out of line and speaks the truth about corruption gets iced out, even if it means letting a Republican keep one of the most important financial jobs in the state.

Of course, the Shapiro camp tried to run damage control once the story started getting out. Suddenly, everyone had “misspoken” or “made a mistake.” The firefighters’ union president who spilled the beans conveniently changed his story overnight. But political insiders know what’s really going on. When a Democrat doesn’t get a nod from the party boss, it’s as good as an engraved invitation to exile—and a green light for any opposition to take over. That’s the kind of cutthroat, self-serving nonsense you get from the so-called “party of the people.”

Let’s not pretend this is some isolated slip-up, either. It lays bare the heart of Democratic machine politics: loyalty to the leader is prized above all, even above winning elections or actual progress for real Pennsylvanians. Shapiro’s handling of the sexual harassment scandal involving his top aide was already shameful—covering it up, settling it quietly, and only acting months after the fact. Yet now, when his own ambition for higher office is at stake, he’s willing to burn a fellow Democrat just to make sure no one makes him look bad. This is what passes for “leadership” on the left.

Democrats always claim they’re protecting women, fighting for workers, and rooting out corruption. But when push comes to shove, they close ranks, punish whistleblowers, and trample any hint of dissent. Shapiro would rather see his own party lose than risk losing his grip on power or the goodwill of national elites. Is it any wonder Americans are fed up with this two-faced, self-obsessed political class?
