Another day, another way for New York’s ruling class to shovel vice down everyone’s throats. For years, our so-called leaders whined about the dangers of gambling, addiction, and “bad influences.” Now, all across New York, the only thing harder to miss than the potholes are the endless, obnoxious lottery ads staring down from every billboard. Apparently, Albany thinks its job is to push state-sponsored fantasies instead of real solutions.
It’s bad enough the lottery even exists—but fine, adults can make their own choices. But an irresponsible flood of ads, plastered everywhere from buses to phone apps, turns what should be a low-key option into a slap in the face. The message is loud and clear: skip the hard work, chase easy money, and just maybe you’ll strike it rich because the government says so. That’s not just lazy—it’s outright dangerous. What ever happened to old-fashioned American values, like earning your way?
This is liberal hypocrisy at its finest. The same crowd that preaches about protecting poor communities is now pumping out ads targeting the very people most likely to suffer from gambling problems. When the tax dollars roll in, suddenly their moral panic disappears. Funny how the rules only seem to change when it’s the state cashing in. Does anyone really believe these endless promotions are about “education funding”? Or are they just another way to paper over financial mismanagement and bloated spending?
Let’s be clear: promoting more vice isn’t a public service. It’s a cheap fix for politicians too lazy or cowardly to make real reforms or cut wasteful spending. Taxpayers foot the bill for government incompetence, and then get bombarded with messages to gamble away what little is left. It’s a scam, plain and simple. Hardworking New Yorkers deserve better than being treated as piggy banks to fill budget holes the state created.
If New York’s politicians want to support families and communities, they should focus on real jobs, safer streets, and honest work—not pie-in-the-sky pipe dreams. The state’s endless lottery barrage is a symptom of deeper rot. When will they stop treating citizens like suckers and start acting in the public’s interest? Maybe the biggest gamble is trusting liberals with your future at all.
