Once again, Los Angeles is burning, and once again, its so-called leader is nowhere in sight. While the city of angels chokes on smoke, Karen Bass can’t even bother to stay in town. This isn’t the first time, and let’s not pretend it’s the last. It seems every time LA faces a real crisis, Karen Bass is jet-setting halfway across the world—to represent the Biden administration, no less.
You’d think after her embarrassing absence during the Palisades Fire, she would have learned how to prioritize her city. Back then, she was thousands of miles away, schmoozing at a foreign presidential inauguration in Ghana while Los Angeles was engulfed in flames. Fast-forward to today, and LA is dealing with the Boyle Heights fire—and surprise, surprise, Bass is out of town again. Do Democrats ever take responsibility, or do they just disappear when things get tough?
It’s clear where her priorities lie, and it’s not with hardworking Americans struggling in their own backyards. Instead of leading during disasters, Bass is more interested in building her globalist résumé. The people of LA deserve a mayor who shows up, not someone who’s more committed to the Biden administration’s international glad-handing routine than to her own constituents.
This is what happens when liberals run the show. The city descends into chaos, crime soars, and when real tragedy strikes, their leaders vanish. Liberals still preach about “community” and “solidarity,” but Bass doesn’t even see fit to stand with her own city during its moments of crisis.
What else can we expect from politicians who are more loyal to party elites than to the people they swore to serve? Maybe Angelenos need to ask themselves a simple question: When the fire alarm goes off, do you want a mayor who runs out the door—or one who actually picks up the hose?
