Once again, liberal elites in Harrisburg are showing their true colors—and it’s families in Pennsylvania who’ll pay the price. House Democrats just steamrolled a bill through the Education Committee to crush school choice programs statewide. Their plan? Block tens of thousands of children—especially those in low-income neighborhoods—from escaping failing public schools. That’s not progress. That’s a power grab.
Programs like the Education Improvement Tax Credit and the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit have been a lifeline for hard-working parents who want better for their kids. These tax credits let families use their own tax dollars to send their children to schools where they can actually learn and thrive. Now Democrats want to rip those opportunities away and stick our most vulnerable students right back into underperforming classrooms. Why? To appease their union cronies and keep the education monopoly happy.
Let’s be honest—this isn’t about what’s best for the students. This is about keeping dollars flowing to government bureaucrats and leftist administrators, not classrooms and communities. Liberal lawmakers, led by Governor Josh Shapiro, would rather satisfy anti-choice special interests than support real educational freedom. And instead of expanding hope across Pennsylvania, they’re pushing top-down regulations that will make it even harder for families to access scholarships.
Voters aren’t buying their double-talk. Polls show overwhelming support for school choice because it’s common sense—parents should decide what’s best for their kids, not politicians in the Capitol. But Democrats see an expanding opportunity for control when they look at classrooms. Stripping families of their options and consolidating programs under stricter government rules is just the latest example of their anti-American, anti-freedom agenda. Globalists and progressives want to turn our children into statistics, not success stories.
It’s up to the state Senate now to block this disaster and stand up for real educational choice. Pennsylvania’s students deserve better than bureaucratic chaos and hollow promises from political hacks. Will the left dare to answer why they’re so afraid of empowered parents? Or will they keep hiding behind broken systems—while our children are the ones left behind?
