Natural disasters hit hardest when weak leadership leaves a nation unprepared. Right now, Venezuela is reeling from two deadly earthquakes that struck within seconds of each other, flattening homes and stealing the lives of over 160 people while injuring almost a thousand more. This tragedy should never have been this bad. The blame doesn’t rest with mother nature alone—Venezuela’s socialist regime has run the country into the ground for years, and now its people pay the price.
This is what the socialist dream looks like in real life: crumbling buildings, no resources for first responders, medical shortages, and a government twiddling its thumbs while chaos reigns. The northern coast of Venezuela is in ruins. Rescue teams are stretched thin, desperate to save lives, but when you spend decades looting your own nation instead of investing in infrastructure, these are the predictable results. Liberals love to preach about equality, but in Venezuela, “equality” just means everyone suffers equally—except for the elites, who always find a way to escape the worst.
Meanwhile, the globalist crowd and their media cheerleaders are already lining up to lecture Americans about climate change and foreign aid. They’ll say “this could happen anywhere” and demand even more of our hard-earned tax dollars to bail out failed states. Notice how the same left-wing activists who attack American energy companies for every tornado or hurricane never say a word about why countries like Venezuela fall apart in a real emergency. Maybe that’s because socialism always gets a free pass in academia and on CNN.
What’s happening in Venezuela now is a warning siren for America. When government is big and bloated and the people in charge care more about their own power than about protecting lives, it’s always regular citizens who get left out in the cold—or in this case, buried under rubble. The left never learns. They keep pointing at failed socialist experiments and promising, “This time, we’ll do it right.”
Maybe instead of playing politics, the world should look hard at what actually helps people stay safe: strong borders, free markets, personal responsibility, and leaders who actually put their citizens first. If American liberals think Venezuela is a model to follow, they should take a long, hard look at the tragedy playing out there now. Ask yourself—do you want to live in a place where the only thing that works as promised is government incompetence?
