California’s radical wealth tax could spark mass exodus as Newsom scrambles to contain fallout

California’s liberal lawmakers are at it again, dreaming up new ways to punish success and drive the state’s economy into the ditch. Their latest brainless scheme? A so-called “wealth tax”—and it’s actually going on the ballot in 2026. Now, even Gavin Newsom is sweating bullets. He should be. The left has gone completely off the deep end this time.

Let’s call this what it is: a desperate money grab by politicians who have already taxed Californians to the breaking point. These folks seem to think the answer to California’s problems is always more taxes—not cutting government waste, not reining in bloated spending, just fleecing anyone who dares to do well. Who in their right mind would stick around when the state starts picking their pockets simply for building a business or saving for their future?

Only someone with zero understanding of economics could come up with a plan like this. But then, California’s leaders are experts at ignoring financial reality. They’re so busy trying to impress their far-left base, they forget that punishing the wealthy never ends well. In fact, every time liberals launch a tax-the-rich crusade, the rich simply leave—taking their jobs, investments, and tax dollars with them. Suddenly the only people left to foot the bill are the middle class and working poor these phonies pretend to care about.

It’s almost like the left wants to chase all the talent and capital right out of the state. Maybe that’s the end goal for these globalist ideologues, who love big government control more than American prosperity. Talk about out-of-touch—while tech companies and innovators are already packing up for Texas and Florida, Newsom and his cronies are setting fire to what’s left of California’s engine of growth.

The worst part? This crazy wealth tax will end up on the ballot, where voters who’ve been fed a steady diet of class warfare and socialist fantasies might actually approve it. Who pays the price if that happens? Everyone. Communities lose jobs and services, retirees see their savings raided, and the exodus from California becomes a stampede.

California’s liberals have learned nothing from their disastrous, tax-hiking past. They’re addicted to other people’s money. Maybe it’s time voters ask themselves: With leaders this clueless, is the Golden State even worth saving anymore?
