The Department of Justice just slapped lawsuits on four Democrat-run states—Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Minnesota—for refusing to hand over basic data about who’s getting billions in food stamp benefits. Let that sink in: these states are flat-out ignoring federal law and refusing to say who’s actually collecting taxpayer-funded SNAP cards. What are they hiding? The American people have a right to know where their money is going, especially when it’s clear that the system is being scammed for billions every year.
While 28 other states had no problem handing this information over—revealing massive fraud and overpayments—these blue state holdouts are stonewalling. We’re talking about over $10 billion in improper payments across the country, and thousands already charged with SNAP theft. In Michigan alone, millions were wasted on people who don’t even live there. Yet, the left-wing establishment in these states acts like oversight is some kind of attack, not basic responsible governance. If you have nothing to hide, why are you hiding it?
Liberal leaders love to brag about “compassion” and “justice”—but somehow, actually protecting programs for the needy from fraud isn’t on their agenda. Their silence when it comes to cleaning up welfare abuse is deafening. Maybe it’s because waste and corruption are just business as usual for the bureaucrats who treat taxpayer money like it’s Monopoly money. Or maybe they’re afraid their cushy voting base won’t like the spotlight shining on the scam artists gaming the system.
America is facing record inflation, a crushing national debt, and working families are struggling to buy groceries. Meanwhile, Democrat governors put up roadblocks to letting the federal government see where welfare dollars are really going. The same people who want open borders and endless social spending are blocking every effort for real accountability. This is transparency for thee, but not for me.
If Democrats truly cared about the most vulnerable, they’d join the fight against waste with both hands. Instead, they’d rather protect the broken status quo—one that drains honest Americans and rewards fraudsters. Why should any state get a free pass to hide where your hard-earned money is going? It’s time for the government to crack down on blue state stonewallers and remind them: the people—not the politicians—own the purse.
