If you want a perfect lesson in just how badly Democrat-run cities fail their people, look no further than what just happened in Chicago. Not far from Barack Obama’s $850 million vanity project (aka his library), one of his old friends, David Axelrod, got a real taste of leftist “compassion.”
Axelrod came across an elderly homeless man sprawled out, obviously unconscious, on the burning-hot steps by the Art Institute. The temperature? A brutal 107 degrees. Did the museum’s security guard help? Not in any real way. She apparently tried waking the man, told him to get in the shade, and then just shrugged it off when he didn’t listen. That’s blue city strategy: say you care, but don’t actually DO anything.
Axelrod called 911, probably expecting quick action—after all, this is the utopia Democrats promised, right? Instead, the call-taker basically asked if the guy wanted help. Since the man couldn’t answer—he was passed out—the city simply decided to abandon him. That’s liberal “leadership” on full display: when people are in real crisis, they get tossed aside because their suffering doesn’t fit the talking points.
It’s staggering. The political elite in these cities want everyone to believe they’re the party of kindness and equity. Meanwhile, they leave homeless people roasting on the sidewalk. This isn’t just a fluke, either—it’s a pattern. Blue city leaders spend taxpayer dollars like Monopoly money on “historic” libraries and flashy PR stunts, claiming it’s all for the people. But the most vulnerable are ignored, left out in the literal heat, freezing in the winter, or worse.
If this is what “progress” looks like, real Americans should run in the other direction. Compassion isn’t turning away from suffering. Real solutions don’t come from empty slogans. Only in Democrat strongholds do politicians pat themselves on the back while the people right outside their doors are suffering, all so they can look woke for the cameras. So, next time someone says the left has all the answers, just ask: How many more tragedies will it take before they admit liberal policies are killing our cities?
