Mayor Zohran Mamdani thinks shutting down Rikers Island is some kind of victory. He’s celebrating new “milestones” in his crusade to put criminals back into our neighborhoods and let law-abiding New Yorkers fend for themselves. Let’s call it what it is: a disaster in the making, cheered on by the same liberal elites that never have to worry about crime in their own gated communities.
This obsession with closing Rikers doesn’t help victims or honest folks trying to get by. It’s just another checkbox on a radical leftist wish list. The only “milestone” being reached is the slow destruction of law and order, one bad decision at a time. Liberals love to talk about “justice reform,” but their reforms let dangerous criminals out and tie the hands of police who keep us safe.
Mayor Mamdani and his friends think they’re champions of justice, but it’s really all about pushing a globalist, anti-American agenda. They don’t care if families in Queens or the Bronx lose sleep at night. All that matters is making headlines and virtue-signaling to their activist base. It shows just how out-of-touch these ideologues really are.
While they pat themselves on the back for every empty jail cell, ordinary New Yorkers pay the price. Violence is rising. Repeat offenders cycle through courts and return to the streets faster than ever. But Mamdani would rather see the city turn into a playground for criminals than face the truth: Rikers, with all its problems, at least keeps the most dangerous people off our streets.
This isn’t “progress.” It’s lunacy dressed up as compassion. The people cheering the loudest are the ones with private security and fat paychecks—not the hardworking men and women who get up every day hoping their subway ride will be safe. If this is Mamdani’s idea of a milestone, what does failure look like?
