The shocking reason abortion is still skyrocketing and why conservatives are too scared to stop it

For years, the pro-life movement has been fighting with one hand tied behind its back. Politicians love to pass piecemeal laws and pat themselves on the back—more ultrasound requirements here, a ban on mail-order abortion pills there, maybe a proclamation about “Natural Family Month.” But while the political class virtue-signals and throws us crumbs, abortions keep ticking up across America. The dirty secret? These half-measures are just pressure valves, not solutions.

The reason abortions persist is simple—there are no real consequences for women who break the law. Establishment pro-life groups keep insisting on “compassion” for mothers, but what about compassion for the innocent child whose life is being snuffed out? Equal protection isn’t a radical idea—it’s bedrock American justice. If murder is wrong, it’s wrong no matter the age or stage of life, inside or outside the womb. Yet the so-called “mainstream” pro-life crowd fights tooth and nail to keep mothers immune from prosecution, pretending that targeting only the abortionists will solve the problem. That’s not justice. That’s cowardice.

Liberals and pro-abortion activists jump on this every time. They love to claim any penalty for abortion will only victimize women or backfire. Nonsense. These weak fears have ruled the pro-life movement’s strategy for decades and led us nowhere. Attempting to kill an innocent person is a crime. When the law treats it seriously—when a woman faces real consequences—abortion rates drop. There are countless stories of women who would have aborted their babies, but didn’t, because they knew they’d be held accountable.

Thankfully, a new wave of conservatives is stepping up, urging equal protection for the unborn and demanding that every party in the crime of abortion be held liable—no matter their gender. The Texas GOP, under relentless pressure from corporate pro-life groups to soften its stance, stood tall and refused to back down. They called out loopholes in the law giving women immunity, and they made clear that policies protecting life must also include penalties for those who destroy it. That is real leadership.

This is about more than just abortion. Weakening consequences for killing the unborn is a symptom of liberal rot, globalist pressure, and an elite class terrified of real morality. The left wants the rules to always bend for the “right” people. But American values demand equality under the law. The fight for life cannot be won by playing nice or chasing emotional trends on social media. Until there are true criminal consequences for every abortion—yes, including for mothers who choose to abort—the killing will march on. Are conservatives finally ready to get serious and demand what’s right, or will they keep letting the left call the shots? The time for coddling is over—abolition means holding everyone accountable. Anything less is betrayal.
