The Democratic Socialists of America are at it again, slamming capitalism and pretending it’s the source of every problem in America. They ask what the free market has really done for the United States, as if the answer is some big secret. Here’s the truth: capitalism is the very reason Americans aren’t still plowing fields by hand and living in dirt-floor huts. For nearly all of human history, poverty wasn’t the exception, it was the rule. Everything changed when free markets unleashed human potential and built the most prosperous nation on Earth.
Look around. All the comforts and technologies we take for granted—from modern medicine to smartphones—exist because free people, not government bureaucrats, had the chance to innovate and build. Even healthcare, housing, and credit—the so-called failures socialists love to yell about—only exist in the forms we recognize because of the free market. Capitalism gave us abundance and choice. When government tries to “fix” things, we get rationing, shortages, and misery. Socialism’s track record is endless waitlists, empty shelves, and lost freedoms.
It gets worse. The left has the nerve to claim that capitalism is why people are struggling, yet every one of their complaints—crippling debt, homelessness, pitiful minimum wages—can be traced right back to government interference. Washington meddles, piles on taxes and red tape, and then blames the private sector for the mess their own policies create. Only in a socialist’s twisted version of reality does government failure become a free market crime.
Political freedom itself is the child of economic liberty. Where you find free markets, you find free people. A competitive economy is a check against tyrants and special interests trying to seize total control. That’s why socialists always want bigger, more powerful government. Their dream is a bureaucrat deciding what you earn, what you get, and what you’re allowed to do. Miss the days when government ran everything? Just look at Venezuela. Look at the Soviet Union. Is that really what Americans want for their children?
Here’s the real stinger: the free market isn’t failing. It’s government busybodies, power-hungry politicians, and liberal know-it-alls who keep tripping it up. The more we hand over to the bureaucrats, the less freedom and prosperity we’ll have. The left wants you angry at capitalism because they know it stands in their way. If the DSA truly wants to see what socialism “gives” a country, they can buy a one-way ticket to any failed socialist state on the map. Why should we trust their fantasy theories over actual, hard-won American greatness?
