President Trump isn’t playing games with America’s so-called allies anymore. This week, he told Scott Bessent to slam the brakes on all trade with Spain—a country that’s acted like a spoiled brat inside NATO for years. Trump’s message is crystal clear: if you want the perks of working with the world’s strongest nation, then you’d better act like a real partner.
Why should American workers and businesses keep lining the pockets of weak European leaders who can’t even hold up their end of the bargain? Spain has been more interested in cozying up to globalists and left-wing bureaucrats than actually defending the West. While American taxpayers foot most of the bill for European defense, Spain prefers to sit on the sidelines, collect benefits, and ignore its obligations.
Liberals are already clutching their pearls about Trump’s decision, crying that it’s “mean” or “reckless.” But what’s really reckless is letting America’s so-called allies walk all over us while the left shrugs and looks the other way. For decades, Democrats and their globalist buddies have treated American strength like it’s something to be ashamed of. Trump, on the other hand, refuses to let freeloaders eat at our table and then spit in our faces.
This is what real leadership looks like. For too long, the establishment has caved to every foreign demand, putting “global harmony” ahead of American workers and security. Now that the gravy train has finally stopped at Spain’s station, maybe other NATO freeloaders will realize it’s time to start pulling their own weight—or risk losing access to the most powerful market on earth.
The days of caving to weak-kneed European countries are over. If only the left had half the backbone Trump does, maybe America wouldn’t be treated like a doormat on the world stage. At the end of the day, why should the United States keep rewarding countries that don’t respect us? Maybe if more leaders put America first, we wouldn’t even be in this mess.
