Elaine Chao couldn’t keep her name out of the headlines this time. While her husband, Senator Mitch McConnell, was in the hospital after a serious medical emergency, where was Chao? Not by his side. She was traveling in China, of all places. That’s exactly the kind of behavior that sparks questions among Americans who are tired of watching our leaders and their families get cozy abroad while ignoring what’s happening right here at home.
As the news broke, outrage grew. Americans want to know: Does the loyalty of our nation’s leaders and their families lie with the United States, or with their own personal interests somewhere overseas? Liberals and their media friends try to brush these concerns aside, acting as if it’s “no big deal” for the wife of one of the top Republicans in the Senate to be traveling in China when her husband is in a hospital bed. They think it’s business as usual. But when Republicans ask questions, the left calls it “conspiracy.” What are they so afraid of?
Elaine Chao finally returned to the United States this week, but not without damage done. The timing of her trip couldn’t have been worse, and people are right to be suspicious. Washington is full of these globalist elites who seem more interested in maintaining ties to foreign powers than defending American values. When China is at the center of every threat to our sovereignty—from technology theft to communist influence—Americans aren’t stupid for noticing the connection.
And when the left pretends there’s nothing to see, they just expose themselves yet again. If this was a conservative traveling to Moscow during a crisis, the mainstream media would be screaming for investigations. But because this is about China, and because Chao worked for a Republican, the left gives her a free pass. That’s hypocrisy at the highest level, and Americans are sick of it.
So here’s a question for every patriot: How much longer will we let these politicians and their families play both sides, snubbing the people they are supposed to serve? Trust needs to be earned—and right now, the swamp looks as deep as ever.
