What is going on with Haley Stevens? Michigan Democrats must be desperate to let this circus act parade as a serious Senate candidate. Instead of standing up to radicalism, they have a choice between an oddball trying too hard to look like “folksy” Midwest and a full-blown socialist who wants to abolish prisons. Is this really the best the party of “progress” can do?
Every election, liberals try to sell their candidates like products. One year Stevens is the generic liberal Midwesterner. Now, she’s apparently some sort of comedy character ripped from a late-night skit. It’s all an act. Voters can spot a phony from a mile away, whether it’s a leftist in cowboy boots in Texas or Stevens and her bizarre routine in Michigan. At least the boots are mildly amusing—this latest schtick is just uncomfortable.
It’s sad but true: the Democrats have a talent for propping up weirdos and radicals. Remember the woman talking about crystal healing and magic in 2020? That was at least entertaining. Now, Michigan’s “serious” candidates are a social justice warrior fixated on defunding everything that keeps us safe and someone who thinks pretending to be a country gal will fool anyone. No wonder regular people are tuning out.
Instead of focusing on real problems—like inflation, border security, or the rising crime in America—Michigan Democrats are too busy embarrassing themselves with candidates who don’t even seem to like normal Americans. If you have to play a character to get through a campaign, maybe you have nothing real to offer. It almost feels like liberals want to lose, just so they can cry about “democracy dying in darkness.”
The good news? There’s still hope for Michigan to get a sensible, unapologetic conservative like Mike Rodgers into the Senate this fall. Let the left keep playing dress-up and clawing over which radical is less embarrassing. The rest of us (the sane majority) are ready to send another real American to Washington. Maybe the Democrats should try running a normal person next time—but don’t hold your breath.
