It’s about time someone steps up to promote real education in this country. Usha Vance is doing just that by rolling out a summer reading challenge for kids from kindergarten up to eighth grade. Twelve books, honest-to-goodness reading, and some good old-fashioned reflection—now that’s something schools used to expect from every child. Remember when challenging our kids was the norm, instead of coddling them with endless distractions, screen time, or progressive nonsense about “lived experience”?
Let’s not kid ourselves—America’s public schools are failing, and the blame lies squarely at the feet of the left-wing establishment. They’ve spent years watering down literary expectations, replacing classics with ideology, and lowering the bar so “nobody feels left out.” Guess what that gets us? Generations of students who can’t read at grade level, write a coherent sentence, or even think critically. It’s an embarrassment, but more than that, it’s a deliberate act of sabotage against our nation’s future.
By offering this challenge, Usha Vance is lighting a fire under parents and students who are sick of excuses and want to see true growth. She’s not banning anyone from picking what they read, but she’s making them step up—twelve books, logged and reflected on. That used to be called parenting and responsibility. It’s what made America great: expecting more, not less, from our youth.
Notice how the liberal elites will probably sneer at this kind of initiative. They prefer pushing divisive theories and social engineering, not reading and reflection. Why? Because a well-read child is a thinking child. And a thinking child is a future adult who’s far less likely to swallow anti-American propaganda. That terrifies the left.
Bravo to Mrs. Vance. She’s doing what self-proclaimed “experts” in education refuse to do: challenge the next generation to be better, stronger, and smarter. Maybe if more leaders would follow her example, we wouldn’t be stuck fighting tooth and nail just to keep the basics of reading and writing alive in U.S. classrooms. Does the left even care, or is their plan to keep our kids ignorant and easily controlled for another generation?
