Democrats Furious as New Bill Demands Immigrants Speak English to Become US Citizens

America’s glue isn’t some bureaucratic paperwork or a fancy slogan on a flag—it’s a common way of communicating. English is what binds neighborhoods, schools, and towns together. That’s why Rep. Brandon Gill’s new English Language Proficiency Act is getting so much attention. It shouldn’t be controversial to say that everyone who becomes an American citizen should speak English. Yet somehow, the Left finds a way to cry “racism” every time Republicans try to bring common sense back into law.

For too long, naturalized citizens have been getting a free pass when it comes to English. There are loopholes so wide you could drive a truck through them—especially for older immigrants. Gill’s bill ends that nonsense. No more special treatment or endless exceptions. If you want to join this nation, you need to be able to talk with your neighbors and understand what’s going on in our country. That’s not oppression—it’s a standard we should expect from anyone who wants to participate in the American experiment.

Leftists love to talk about “diversity” and “inclusion,” but what they’re really pushing is division. When half the people in a community can’t understand what the other half is saying, that’s not “progress”—it’s chaos. Just look at the rise of non-English speakers all across America. Forty years ago, it was rare to meet someone who didn’t use English at home. Now, it’s twice as common. That doesn’t just make social life awkward—it puts the whole idea of American unity at risk.

And let’s talk about safety. It’s not just about waving flags and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. There have been tragic cases where people with commercial driver’s licenses couldn’t even read a stop sign or communicate with police—sometimes with deadly results. How many more Americans have to be killed in preventable accidents before the government stops pandering to special interest groups and globalist elites? When state troopers need Google Translate to talk to a truck driver, something is horribly wrong.

Gill’s bill is nothing but basic common sense. It holds everyone to the same standard, shuts out the endless excuses, and finally puts the interests of the American people first. Why should someone get the privilege of citizenship without even learning the language? Democrats will say it’s “inhumane”—but what’s truly inhumane is letting this great nation descend into confusion and danger, all to appease radical activists. Maybe the Left should try defending American values for once—if they can say it in English.
