Mayor stuns liberals by crushing woke mobs and saving New York’s elite schools from equity chaos

For once, the radical-left mob in New York didn’t get their way. Big surprise! Mayor Zohran Mamdani stood his ground and refused to join the annual circus attacking New York City’s top high schools. Every year, the liberal outrage machine cranks up, whining that it’s not “fair” when smart, hardworking kids earn their place at our best schools. Sorry, liberals — excellence still matters.

Instead of caving to woke pressure and watering down admissions, Mamdani actually defended merit-based education. Imagine that! For years, the left has tried to destroy specialized high schools because the so-called “equity” crowd can’t stand it when achievement wins out over their failed experiments in social engineering. Liberals always want to lower the bar, punish success, and hand out trophies to everyone. Meanwhile, American students keep falling behind, all because feelings matter more than facts.

Let’s set the record straight. These elite schools are competitive for a reason. They push kids to do more, think harder, and rise to their full potential. But the progressive crowd is obsessed with leveling everyone down. They want to make admission about skin color, zip code, or whatever identity box fits the narrative this week — anything but actual ability. Who loses? The students who work day and night for a spot, and our whole nation, when academic standards crash.

Globalist elites and their allies in city politics love to talk about “diversity” and “inclusion,” but all they’re doing is making American schools the laughingstock of the world. If kids in New York can’t earn their way in, what hope does the rest of the country have? Meritocracy used to be the American way. Now it’s under constant attack from people who care more about their own power than our children’s future.

Thank goodness for a rare moment of backbone from City Hall. Maybe it’s time the rest of the country follows suit and stops surrendering to the feelings-before-facts brigade. Would America be in such chaos if more leaders demanded excellence instead of excuses?
