Are Virginia’s children safe in their own schools? Apparently, the answer is “who cares?” if you’re asking the majority of the local school board. In a move that would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous, a Virginia school board shot down a proposal to drug test teachers—only two years after a second-grade teacher collapsed from a fentanyl overdose right in front of her own class. That’s right. Her students sat there helpless while drugs took down the adult trusted to keep them safe. Yet the board still refuses to act.
This isn’t about privacy or dignity; it’s about basic safety. Americans expect our schools to be safe zones—not playgrounds for woke policies and teacher unions thirsty for power. If these so-called “educators” can’t prove they are drug-free, how can we trust them with our kids? The left preaches about creating “safe environments,” but apparently that only applies when it serves their twisted agenda. When the time comes to actually hold employees accountable, suddenly it’s all about feelings.
Is anyone really surprised? Liberal bureaucrats would rather bend over backward for union interests and “social justice” talking points than protect the most vulnerable among us. They treat parents like the enemy and schools like their private club. One overdosed teacher in a classroom was a freakish warning. To these people, that lesson doesn’t matter. Protecting adults from “indignity” is more important than protecting children from drugs.
Everyday Americans are sick of the hypocrisy. Working-class folks get random drug tests just to flip burgers or drive trucks. But somehow—magically—teachers are above all that? Give us a break. Are we supposed to accept that the people shaping our kids’ futures don’t need the same scrutiny? This is how rot spreads: with cowardice dressed up as compassion.
The priorities in America’s public schools have gone off the rails. No loyalty to parents, no backbone against unions, no shame about the consequences. If a classroom fentanyl overdose can’t wake school leaders up, what will? Maybe it’s time for new leadership—people who care more about children than about soothing the egos of failed adults.
