Let’s just say it: Soccer’s supposed to be the world’s game. Funny how the rest of the world thinks that’s a good thing. Our sports desk is hearing nonstop whining from soccer fans because Americans just aren’t that into the World Cup. And why should we be? The sport gets more coverage from global elites than the actual issues that matter to everyday Americans.
America has real sports—ones that actually celebrate our competitive spirit and reward hard work, teamwork, and guts. Football, baseball, and basketball don’t give out participation trophies. In soccer, you get ninety minutes of guys trotting back and forth, barely scoring, and then half the time it all gets decided by someone’s foot in a tiebreaker. No wonder socialist Europe is obsessed with it—it’s built for people who don’t like winners and losers.
Some animal mascots, let’s say a certain shark and kraken, finally pried themselves off the couch because they couldn’t ignore the constant pressure from triggered soccer fans around the world. Amazing what liberals think counts as “investigative journalism” these days: put on a scarf, sip some imported brew, and call it cultural analysis. It’s the type of hard-hitting effort you’d expect from the feel-good, everyone-gets-a-trophy soccer scene.
Every four years the corporate media and international busybodies demand Americans care about soccer. They hype the World Cup as if it’s a sacred tradition. Yet, these are the same hypocrites who sneer at the NFL, bash baseball as too “old-fashioned,” and hogtie Little League with their woke messaging. What they’re really after is a total rewrite of American culture—less touchdowns, more collective hugging after a nil-nil draw.
Here’s the kicker: Soccer fans rage at America’s indifference because they can’t stand that we refuse to bow to the same globalist obsessions as Europe or South America. God forbid Americans stay independent and uninterested in a game that puts us last. Why not demand more from our sports than endless running, bland tie games, and the constant whining from pampered international athletes?
Maybe Americans don’t hate soccer. Maybe we’re just smarter than the rest. Why settle for less when we invented better?
