The left is eating its own, and it’s over something as basic as free speech. Who would’ve thought? On one side we’ve got Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a Democrat who usually cheers for speech crackdowns if they come from the “right” target. Now, she’s up in arms because ultra-leftist Hasan Piker got booted from speaking at the University of Washington over his disgusting commentary on Israel. Suddenly she’s a champion of the First Amendment—give me a break. Where was this energy when conservatives faced shutdowns, demonetizations, and mob violence on campus?
Jayapal’s support isn’t fooling anyone. She’s using the First Amendment as camouflage for her twisted agenda—backing an antisemite to push the radical narrative, all while pretending she cares about free speech as a principle. Talk about fake virtue. We know the truth. She just wants her side to have the megaphone, no matter how toxic the message.
But here’s the kicker: this time, even she’s right on one razor-thin point. Let the loudmouth speak. Give the man his microphone and watch him set himself on fire with his own words. That’s what happens when bad ideas see daylight—they crash and burn. Kids at these events talk to each other, challenge what they hear, and sometimes even open their eyes to what’s really being peddled. That’s called debate, something the left only pretends to support when it fits their script.
Across the aisle, Rep. Dan Goldman, who at least stands up for Israel, still misses the boat. He argues the government should muzzle speech at public universities to “protect students” from a so-called hostile environment. Never mind that open debate is what makes this country work. Using federal funds as an excuse to police ideas isn’t just cowardly, it’s un-American. That’s what tyrants do, not patriots. The First Amendment wasn’t written to shelter anyone from “offensive” words—it was built as a shield for them.
Here’s the real test: either you believe in free speech or you don’t. You don’t get to pick and choose who gets to talk based on your feelings or your polls. Let Piker rant, and let the rest of us expose his poison for what it is. The left has gotten so drunk on censorship that when they turn on each other, it’s worth grabbing the popcorn. But don’t mistake their “principles” for real conviction. Deep down, these Democrats care about power, not freedom.
Funny how it takes a hard-left feud for the First Amendment to matter again. Maybe if they fought this hard to defend conservative voices, campuses wouldn’t be intellectual wastelands. The hypocrisy burns brighter than their protests. Will they ever learn? Or will they just keep censoring until there’s nothing left but their own echoes?
