One year ago, Democrats in New York thought they had solved the city’s problems by slapping a $15 toll on anyone who dared to drive into Manhattan’s Central Business District. They called it “congestion pricing,” but anyone with common sense knew exactly what it was—another tax on hardworking Americans. Instead of making life easier, it turned the city into a playground for the political elite and their wealthy friends, while regular folks were forced to pay the price just to get to work or see family.
Liberals claimed this cash grab would help the environment and reduce traffic. Has anyone actually looked around lately? The gridlock is worse than ever, and the only thing thinned out is the wallet of anyone who needs to drive. Ordinary people, like nurses and small business owners, are footing the bill so that a bunch of Ivy League planners can pat themselves on the back at fancy cocktail parties.
This is the same tired playbook—punish everyday Americans and call it progress. The so-called leaders behind this policy either don’t get it or they just don’t care. Their “solution” to congestion was to make driving so expensive, only the wealthy can afford it. Meanwhile, everyone else is left with costly commutes, crowded subways, and zero relief. The result? No improvements to air quality, no real break in the endless line of honking cars, and still, the politicians pretend all is well.
What’s worse, this isn’t just about traffic. This is another chapter in the left’s anti-car, anti-freedom agenda. They want control, plain and simple. If your daily life gets harder, that’s just “collateral damage” to them. They take working Americans for granted and use environmental buzzwords as cover for their failures.
If this is what Democrat “leadership” looks like—a botched scheme that hits regular folks and does nothing for the environment—then maybe it’s time to put real Americans back in charge. How much more of this nonsense are New Yorkers supposed to take?
