3D Printing: The Latest Target of Liberal Overreach
Democrats never miss a chance to choke the life out of American innovation. Just look at their latest crusade—trying to strangle small-scale 3D printing in its cradle, all because they’re terrified someone, somewhere, might make a plastic gun part. This is classic leftist panic, pushing control and regulation over freedom and creativity. California’s governor just proved the point, signing off on laws that demand government pre-approval every time an American wants to print a harmless trinket, a model airplane, or even a replacement part for a broken tool. Forget about “innocent until proven guilty”—California liberals want to treat every tinkerer and inventor like a criminal.
Let’s set the record straight. The numbers don’t lie: out of the hundreds of millions of things Americans print with their 3D machines every year, only a laughably tiny fraction have ever been connected to homemade weapons. The ATF’s own statistics show that maybe 7,500 homemade guns each year use plastic parts. Compare that to around 500 million firearms in the country. The danger here is not 3D printing—it’s the left’s fearmongering, which aims to scare Americans into giving up constitutional rights, one “common sense” restriction at a time.
Meanwhile, cities like New York and states like Washington are salivating over new schemes to kill off 3D printing before it fully blossoms. They want internet tracking, personal data logs, and mandatory in-person sales—all to stop kids from making model rocket parts, or entrepreneurs from inventing the next life-changing gadget in their garage. The left talks a big game about “innovation,” but what they actually offer is red tape and digital surveillance.
What’s even more insane? They pretend there’s some magic technology that can tell a plastic pipe for home repairs from one used for a gun barrel. Anyone who understands even a scrap of engineering knows that’s impossible. These politicians don’t understand the technology, don’t respect the spirit of American invention, and frankly, don’t seem to care. For Hollywood, there are exceptions—they wouldn’t want to upset their big-money friends in the movie business. But for ordinary folks, it’s bureaucratic misery or nothing.
The heart of American greatness is the freedom to create, tinker, and build. 3D printing is giving regular people—especially kids—the priceless opportunity to design, imagine, and produce amazing things right at home. It’s the shop class of the future, open to anyone with a dream and a spool of filament. The liberal war on 3D printers is nothing but an attack on American ingenuity. So, who exactly benefits from this crusade against harmless tools? Let’s ask the real question: If the left fears the American spirit so much, what are they really trying to control?
