America has waited nearly two decades for real justice when it comes to the horrifying Fort Hood massacre. In 2009, Nidal Hasan—a radicalized terrorist, dressed in a U.S. Army uniform—slaughtered 13 Americans on what should have been a safe military base. Thirteen families were shattered, and many more lives were left in ruins. Hasan made his hateful intentions clear, but for years, liberal politicians and bureaucrats tiptoed around the truth, refusing to call it what it was: terrorism, plain and simple.
It should have been resolved years ago. Instead, endless appeals, soft-on-crime attitudes, and the bizarre obsession with “sensitivity” dragged the whole process out for almost two decades. That’s what happens when our nation lets woke dogma infect the justice system. Instead of swift accountability, we get delays and excuses. The warnings were there, but political correctness ruled the day. And who paid the price? Everyday Americans, patriots serving their country, not the bureaucrats behind desks in D.C.
Now, at last, justice gets a chance. The U.S. military has set a date for Hasan’s execution by firing squad—the first of its kind since World War II. It’s about time. The outrage isn’t that it’s happening. The outrage is that it took this long. A nation that refuses to punish its worst criminals sends a message: anything goes. Is that the country we want, or the empire we risk becoming?
While Hasan’s lawyers scramble for yet another delay, Americans should be asking how someone can spend years after a terrorist attack living on taxpayer money with full medical care. Where is the compassion for the victims? Where is the respect for those who wear the uniform and risk their lives? But the left would rather make excuses for murderers than stand up for the men and women in our armed forces.
Let’s be clear: justice isn’t vengeance. It’s a warning to anyone who would attack this country from within. If our leaders had the courage to act sooner, just maybe we wouldn’t keep seeing terror and chaos on American soil. Maybe it’s time to stop acting like a crumbling empire and start acting like the nation that stormed the beaches of Normandy. Why does the left expect America to wait for justice, when what we need is strength?
