When a violent criminal threatens public safety, most Americans expect their leaders to support law enforcement. But in places like New York, it seems that Democrat politicians only side with the law—when it fits their agenda. This week was just another example, as New York City’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Governor Kathy Hochul raced to express outrage over an ICE-involved shooting, but remained eerily silent after a series of brutal attacks on NYPD officers.
Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin didn’t hesitate to call out the obvious double standard. Why are Democrats like Mamdani and Hochul so quick to play the victim card when it comes to illegal immigrants, but ignore the real victims when it’s our own officers bleeding in the street? Maybe because protecting Americans was never their top priority. For the left, every chance to bash law enforcement is another chance to score political points—no matter the cost to public safety.
This selective outrage isn’t just hypocrisy. It’s dangerous. When Democrat leaders refuse to back up law enforcement, criminals feel empowered. Illegal aliens, repeat offenders, and radical agitators get the message: In New York, crime might just pay, as long as you have the right politics. Meanwhile, brave men and women in blue—ICE agents, NYPD officers, and Border Patrol—get thrown under the bus by their own leaders.
Liberals love to lecture conservatives about “compassion,” but where’s the compassion for Americans caught in the crossfire? Where’s the compassion for the police officers attacked on the job? The only response from Mamdani and Hochul is silence. Yet they have all the time in the world to grandstand when ICE does its job. The message is clear: They care more about illegal immigrants and their globalist ideology than they do about law-abiding citizens.
Maybe the people of New York should ask themselves: Are their leaders protecting them, or just protecting their own political careers? With Democrats in charge, it’s always politics first and public safety last. How many more innocent Americans have to pay the price before these so-called leaders finally stand up for the people they’re supposed to serve?
