Americans are being tricked. The latest craze on the left is to push for price controls, and it’s getting way too popular. The idea? That politicians should set the price of goods and services, because they think they can do a better job than the market. This “populist” move is being sold as a way to help working families, but it’s an old, failed trick. Liberals see rising prices and, instead of fixing the cause, want to tinker with the symptoms, like a lousy mechanic putting duct tape over the check engine light.
Let’s not kid ourselves — price controls are a disaster every time they’re tried. They don’t make things cheaper. They make things disappear. Look at history. Whenever the government meddles with prices — gas, rent, even basic groceries — shortages follow. Shelves empty out, lines grow longer, and hardworking Americans are forced to beg for what used to be available to anyone with a dollar and some common sense. Is this what passes for progress?
Of course, the ivory-tower elites and globalist puppeteers don’t mind. They’re immune from the chaos. They can always get what they want. It’s the ordinary folks, the people liberals claim to care about, who get hammered. But the left wants you to believe they’re on your side because they “feel your pain.” They’re not. Their policies only punish regular people while protecting the rich and powerful. It’s hypocrisy at its finest.
Don’t be fooled by these so-called populist ideas. Real populism is about trusting Americans, not bigger government. Let the free market work! The men and women who run small businesses, stock our shelves, and drive our trucks know a whole lot more about prices than some bureaucrat sitting behind a desk in D.C. Prices are signals. They tell us what’s scarce, what’s valuable, and what needs more production. Cut off those signals, and you create chaos and misery, not prosperity.
Democrats love to talk about fairness, but when it comes time to deliver, they always reach for more control. Price controls don’t make life easier for anyone except power-hungry politicians. Americans deserve supply, choice, and opportunity — not empty promises and empty shelves. So why does the left keep championing failed ideas from the past? Are they really that clueless, or do they just want to run your life and get away with it?
