Alvaro Pulido, a so-called businessman from Venezuela, has been living large while the socialist regime he supported has run Venezuela to ruin. Now, after years on the run, this fugitive, involved in a massive bribery scheme, is being held by the U.S. Department of Justice. It’s about time.

Let’s be crystal clear: Maduro’s government has never been about “the people.” It’s been about stuffing the pockets of insiders and trampling freedom. Pulido’s indictment back in 2019—followed up again in 2021—showed just how deep the corruption goes. Instead of building up his own country, he exploited it, all while American leftists cheered socialism as some kind of answer. How many times must we watch these so-called “champions of the poor” enrich themselves while their people starve?

The Biden administration and its allies love to wag their fingers about “democracy,” but they keep looking for ways to appease failed socialist leaders like Maduro. While conservatives beg for a tough stance, the left complains about “imperialism.” If we don’t draw a clear line, we’re welcoming more fraudsters and criminals across our borders.
