Taxation has always been the Democrats’ favorite weapon, but now they’re aiming it straight at America’s digital backbone. That’s right—the same liberals who lecture us about “the future” and “technology” are blind to how their tax schemes sabotage the most critical industry of our time: data centers. While these mega-facilities fuel everything from your email to the cloud, Democrat-led states are happy to slap them with taxes just for owning their own servers and equipment.
Across much of the country, data centers aren’t just paying their fair share. They’re being hammered with tangible personal property taxes—just for owning computers, servers, and networking hardware. In these states, owning hardware is a punishable offense unless you’re a woke tech giant with an army of lobbyists. Main Street companies trying to compete? Forget about it. If you want American innovation to die, this is exactly how you do it.
Liberals love to babble about “job growth” and “competing globally,” but then they turn around and chase away one of our fastest-growing industries. It doesn’t take a genius to see the hypocrisy. Data centers are high-skilled, high-paying job creators. But when local and state governments squeeze them with reckless taxes, the message is clear: Take your investment elsewhere—or maybe just ship it to China.
Why would politicians who constantly cry about “infrastructure” make it harder for companies to support the digital world? Maybe it’s about control. Maybe it’s about appeasing loud, clueless activists who hate Big Tech but use their products from sunup to sundown. Or maybe it’s just more Democrat incompetence, pure and simple.
If progressives really cared about a strong, secure America, they’d drop these outdated, punishing taxes and welcome data centers with open arms. But their anti-business agenda keeps putting globalist interests ahead of American progress. Until that changes, the United States will lag behind—thanks entirely to left-wing lawmakers too busy counting your tax dollars to see the bleeding obvious. Do they want Silicon Valley to pack up and find a home in Beijing?
