America has spent decades obsessed with Europe. Every time our politicians look for “allies,” their eyes turn across the Atlantic, chasing Old World approval and outdated alliances. But while Washington elites hobnob with European bureaucrats, they ignore an incredible truth: our closest partners—the people who share our hemisphere, our values, and a fierce entrepreneurial spirit—are right here, to the south.
European travelers have always felt at home in Latin America. The culture, family traditions, and even the architecture remind them of their own past. Isn’t it bizarre that these very same societies feel like strangers to most Americans—even as Miami and other U.S. cities overflow with Latin energy, hard work, and hope for the future? Maybe it’s because the liberal elite loved the idea of American “exceptionalism” as defined by European standards, not by hemispheric reality.
Let’s be honest, Europe today is a mess. Their economies are sputtering. Their leaders can’t even agree on basic security. Their relationship with Russia is spiraling—and their “old friends” in America are always expected to pick up the pieces. Instead of hitching our wagon to this declining project, it’s time to embrace our own neighborhood. The truth liberals hate to admit? Vibrant Latin American societies are growing, innovating, and building—despite decades of socialist mistakes and globalist meddling.
It’s no surprise that Secretary of State Marco Rubio represents a new direction. His roots in South Florida give him an understanding of this shared future. While out-of-touch Ivy Leaguers sneer at our neighbors and pretend we’re global citizens, those who actually build, trade, and work with Latin America know its promise. The hemisphere is full of young people hungry for opportunity. They want partnership—not condescending handouts or globalist lectures.
While Europe staggers toward more division, America can seize this moment. This isn’t about nostalgia or political charity. It’s about building real alliances that actually serve American interests—energy, jobs, and security. Why keep chasing dying European dreams when the best future is right at our doorstep? Maybe it’s time to realize our strongest brothers have been south of us all along.
