Elites Reward NPR Boss for Calling Free Speech a Problem and You Won’t Believe Who’s Clapping

The Left’s War on Free Speech Scores a Participation Trophy

It’s amazing what passes for “bravery” among elites these days. The same crowd that wrings its hands over “disinformation” and wants tighter control over speech is now patting itself on the back for supposedly defending the First Amendment. Case in point: NPR CEO Katherine Maher, a darling of the establishment, is being awarded for her contributions to free expression. Yes, you read that right.

This is the same Katherine Maher who has openly complained that the First Amendment is a problem—her words, not mine. In her eyes, the right to speak freely is an obstacle when it comes to policing online information. There’s no secret here: the liberal playbook calls Americans’ core freedoms a challenge, not a blessing. And for that, she’s getting a prize in New York, complete with a fancy dinner and applause from the people who think free speech is something to manage, not celebrate.

What message is this sending? The new standard is clear: attack America’s founding principles, then watch the champagne flow. When the people cheering you on are the same ones eager for more censorship and centralized power, you know the American spirit is under attack. It’s become fashionable in elite circles to call anything you don’t like “misinformation” and to hold the First Amendment in contempt. Apparently, that’s award-worthy now.

It’s laughable—a CEO running a taxpayer-supported media outlet is being rewarded for seeing our freedoms as a headache. Where’s the honor in undermining the very rights that make this country unique? Only in the twisted logic of liberal America does skepticism about the Bill of Rights earn you a place on a podium. Any real defender of the Constitution would be appalled.

So here we are, witnessing the topsy-turvy circus of the Left: hand out trophies to the people most eager to “reimagine” rights they neither like nor respect. Maybe next year, the award will go to whoever can censor Americans the fastest. Since when did defending censorship become heroic in America?
