Democrats in Virginia are once again proving that enough is never enough when it comes to abortion. Abortion is already legal in the Commonwealth, accessible to just about anyone who wants it, all the way up to the brink of birth. But for the far left, these loose restrictions are still too tight. Now, they’re pushing to rewrite Virginia’s state constitution itself, giving abortion-on-demand special, permanent status as a “fundamental right” for everyone—including children—with almost zero guardrails.
This isn’t about preserving choice. It’s about crushing any last limit, any basic standard, that once protected unborn children. The “Reproductive Freedom Amendment,” which will now appear on ballots as Question 1, isn’t just a tweak. It wipes away what little is left of common sense. Under this amendment, minors could get abortions without their parents ever knowing, stripping moms and dads of their right to be involved in life-changing decisions about their own kids’ health. A single abortionist’s say-so would be enough to end a viable pregnancy, at any stage, for any reason.
Democrats like to claim this is about women’s rights or healthcare. But let’s call it what it is: radical extremism, hiding behind feel-good language. The proposal erases protections for the unborn, pretends parents are obstacles, and paves the way for out-of-state abortion traffic, turning Virginia into an abortion destination for the entire South. Out-of-state abortions in Virginia already jumped by 30% since 2022, and over 38,000 abortions happen in Virginia each year. Apparently, that’s still not enough carnage for the anti-life crowd.
What’s worse, this amendment is so broad it could invite even more chaos. Don’t want your child sterilized without your consent? Too bad. Want counselors or doctors to actually advise against abortion? They could face prosecution or lose their licenses. And if a baby is born alive after an attempted abortion, Democrat lawmakers REFUSED to require care for that living, breathing child. This is barbarism in the name of “progress.”
This is not about health, freedom, or Americans’ real rights. It’s about enshrining the abortion industry’s power, bulldozing any opposition, and telling parents—and the unborn—to get lost. That’s the future Democrats are writing into law. Virginians are faced with a choice: defend life and parental rights or watch both get wiped out by a mob of out-of-touch politicians. When will Americans wake up and see what’s really happening—before it’s too late?
