NYC liberals to axe 150 year carriage rides is your favorite tradition next

New York City is about to lose another piece of its soul. Thanks to Mayor Zohran Mamdani and City Council Speaker Julie Menin, the city is killing off the horse-drawn carriage rides—a tradition as old as Central Park itself. That’s more than 150 years gone in the blink of an eye, all to please radical activists and the city’s growing army of bureaucrats.

Once again, the liberals in charge show their true colors. They promise to care about “the people,” but end up policing every ounce of joy or nostalgia out of daily life. These carriages aren’t just tourist traps. They are woven into New York’s history, family stories, and that dream of seeing city lights from the back of a carriage. But the “nanny state” crowd doesn’t care about that. They’re more interested in signaling virtue than protecting American tradition.

New Yorkers never asked for this heavy-handed crackdown. Elites in City Hall act like protecting horses was their only option, while ignoring centuries of responsible carriage owners and happy visitors. Maybe the next thing on their list will be banning Christmas trees or hot dogs for “public safety.” When does it end? Liberal leaders always talk about “diversity” and “inclusion,” unless it’s something they personally dislike. That’s hypocrisy at its finest.

It’s no surprise that globalist-thinking politicians don’t understand the value of tradition. They don’t ride carriages, and they don’t care who loses their jobs or livelihoods. For them, this is about control. They want to decide what’s best for every New Yorker, down to what memories they are allowed to keep. History, jobs, and joy are all tossed aside for the latest trendy cause.

What’s next for the left—will pizza ovens be next on the chopping block? New York’s slippery slope just claimed another victim. Liberals say it’s “progress,” but real New Yorkers know better: these policies are destroying the city’s spirit, one tradition at a time.
