Gavin Newsom and Arnold Schwarzenegger seemed thrilled to slap each other on the back this week, celebrating yet another anniversary of Sacramento’s favorite disaster—the so-called “cap-and-trade” scheme. When out-of-touch elites throw themselves lavish parties for policies that crush working families, you know it’s just another day in California.
This “cap-and-invest” nonsense has been around for two decades, destroying wallets and driving jobs out of state. Politicians pat themselves on the back while real Californians are paying the price every time they fill up their tank or pay their power bill. Newsom and Schwarzenegger, surrounded by cameras and cheering bureaucrats, act like they’ve saved the world. But have you noticed? Gas in California is the highest in the nation, jobs are leaving, and homelessness gets worse. For Gavin and Arnold, that’s cause for celebration.
Let’s be honest. These policies are gifts to coastal elites and globalist special interests, not working-class Americans. While regular people struggle to afford groceries and gas, Sacramento smugly jacks up the cost of living in the name of “saving the planet.” Meanwhile, China laughs and keeps polluting, and California’s leaders just keep raking in tax revenue. The hypocrisy is loud and clear—enrich the bureaucracy, punish the people.
What about real problems? Instead of fixing homelessness, crime, or bad schools, the state’s bigwigs double down on schemes like cap-and-trade. Remember, these are the same politicians who love to virtue-signal while their own cities turn into tent cities. Apparently, as long as Newsom and Schwarzenegger get a photo-op out of it, the suffering of average Californians doesn’t matter.
So while the rich and powerful toast themselves for a job well done, regular people are stuck picking up the tab for their failed climate fantasies. How much more do Californians have to pay before they realize these “green” crusaders aren’t interested in helping anyone but themselves?
