It’s official—the so-called “pied-à-terre tax” dreamt up by Governor Hochul and Assemblyman Mamdani is crashing and burning. Anyone with common sense saw this trainwreck coming from a mile away. But no, the Democrats in charge couldn’t resist another clumsy, meddling tax scheme cooked up in Albany.
This was never about helping New Yorkers. It’s just another left-wing money grab, slapping more rules and red tape on people who dare to own second homes in the city. Punish success, drive away investors, and squeeze every last penny—typical liberal playbook. Let’s call it what it is: class warfare cooked up by politicians desperate for attention and a bigger piece of your wallet.
The Hochul-Mamdani disaster was doomed from the start. The idea sounded good at a cocktail party full of out-of-touch progressives, but it was a nightmare to put into action. How do you even track who lives in which apartment, when, and for how long? No clear answers. Just confusion, paperwork, and a green light for even more bureaucracy. The only guaranteed winners were the lawyers.
It gets worse. Globalists and anti-American activists claim this tax would finally hit “rich foreigners” snapping up luxury apartments. But the left fails to see how these people prop up the city’s economy, pay boatloads of property taxes, and spend money in local businesses. Instead, liberals would rather scare off investment—driving New York further into debt, hollowing out neighborhoods, and making life harder for everyone who just wants to get by.
The bottom line? Democrats are masters of broken promises and botched policies. They can’t fix the subway, can’t keep our streets safe, and now their latest pet project is a total flop. Why should New Yorkers trust them to run anything? If this is “progress,” it looks an awful lot like decline.
