Seattle plunges deeper into budget disaster as liberal leaders slash vital city services

Seattle’s liberal leaders are up to their necks in financial chaos—again. The city admits it’s still staring at a gigantic $175 million budget hole, even after hearing some so-called “good news” about tax revenue flowing in slightly better than expected through 2028. Put simply, there’s not nearly enough money to fix what’s broken, and ordinary citizens are about to pay the price.

Mayor Katie Wilson, a darling of left-wing activists, promised big things but failed at the most basic job—balancing the books and protecting city services. Now, she’s slashing essential programs to make up for years of reckless spending and socialist experiments. From public safety to infrastructure, nothing is safe from the budget axe. Seattle’s streets, already plagued by drugs and crime, are set to become even more dangerous and neglected.

Why is there never enough money in blue cities? Because liberal leaders waste it. They dump cash into pet projects that satisfy the woke elite, but ignore the needs of the working families who pay the bills. All the while, they cheer for higher taxes—always looking to squeeze a little more out of the middle class in the name of “equity” or “climate justice.” Well, here are the results: a city that can’t keep the streets clean or its citizens safe.

It’s no shock that Seattle, an experiment in progressive policies, now faces tough choices. Instead of admitting the liberal agenda has failed, the city pretends it just needs a little more money—always a little more. But revenue predictions can’t solve the fundamental issue: run-away spending and priorities set by out-of-touch politicians. When will the left realize criminals and bureaucrats don’t need more handouts—they need accountability and discipline?

If this is the “progress” Seattle is offering, the rest of America should run in the opposite direction. Blue city budgets are little more than a roadmap for disaster. Maybe it’s time the people of Seattle trade in failed leadership for some common sense. How many more broken promises—and broken budgets—will it take for liberal America to wake up?
