It’s truly amazing how quickly the NCAA runs to the courtroom whenever someone stands up for common sense. The latest storm? Ohio Governor Mike DeWine dared to put students first with a new executive order on eligibility—putting the NCAA on defense. Liberals and their Supreme Court puppets always yap about “fairness” in college sports, but as soon as new rules actually help students, the NCAA shows its true colors.
DeWine’s plan is simple. Students would become eligible for college sports the academic year after they turn 19, or when they first enroll full-time in college—whichever comes first. That means controlling eligibility, reigning in the endless red tape, and stopping older, potential “ringer” athletes from gaming the system. It puts the power, for once, back in the hands of the people actually in school. For years, Americans have watched as paper-pushers and faceless organizations trampled over the spirit of college sports. DeWine stood up to it.
But of course, the woke lawyers at the NCAA just couldn’t let that stand. Instead of respecting state leadership—an American principle—they go for the nuclear option and sue. That’s right, they’d rather bleed taxpayers dry with lawsuits than respect a governor’s authority. Where was this energy when foreign-born athletes, sometimes well into their 20s, started showing up and skewing the playing field? Or does “fairness” only matter when globalist interests aren’t on the table?
Liberals love to talk about “equity,” but when local leaders actually try to give families and students control over their own futures, Big Sport and their allies go into attack mode. The NCAA chase dollars, not values. They prefer complicated rules, loopholes, and endless bureaucracy. They claim kids need their overbearing control, but all they really want is unchecked power at the expense of students and families.
Let’s not pretend anymore. The NCAA is scared. They’re desperate to keep their grip on all college sports and crush any real reform. Why not let local leaders make decisions their own voters actually want? The truth is, the NCAA and their left-wing apologists would rather run roughshod over states’ rights than admit their broken system needs a fix. Why should parents and kids in Ohio—or anywhere else—let these greedy bureaucrats decide who gets to play?
